The Integrity Newsletter | 2nd Quarter | 2023

Updated: Dec 14, 2023

Welcome to our second newsletter of this year! This year our newsletter will no longer be published on a monthly basis but only per quarter. That means, our newsletter will report retrospectively about our activities of the last three months. At the same time, we will announce what is coming up in the next quarter. We hope you enjoy browsing through what we have been up to lately.

Initiatives in Review | 2nd Quarter 2023

EnergyVision

With this project, we want to significantly increase the share of energy generated in Liechtenstein by 2030 and make photovoltaic electricity generated usable locally in heat generation and electromobility.

2nd of July 2023 | Exhibition in Schaan

In several keynote speeches, Gebhard Beck and Gaston Fehr presented our lighthouse project "EnergyVision", which we are implementing with eight partner municipalities in Liechtenstein, in the "Perspektivenraum" of the SDG Tower in Schaan @ichdieZukunft and shed light on myths and facts about electric cars. Exhibition visitors were invited to share their assumptions and attitudes regarding electric cars with sticky dots.

22nd of July 2023 | 9th Entrepreneurial Meet-up in the Municipality of Triesen

Gaston Fehr and Gebhard Beck were able to give a presentation focusing on the generation and use of clean energy in company settings at the 9th Entrepreneur meet-up in the municipality of Triesen. Five entrepreneurs registered for an "EnergyVision" impulse consultation, by means of which they can determine what potential they have in terms of energy generation and with which measures costs can be saved in the long term.

Integral Way of Living

An innovative initiative to research and prototype regenerative communities.

Process Phase 2: Awareness Campaign & Feasibility Study

In order to realize a first prototype in the future, it is important to understand the needs and interests on the part of the population as well as to know the building law restrictions. Above all, however, it is crucial to be able to show local politicians where the Liechtenstein population stands with regard to communal and circular living so that concrete measures can be taken.

On behalf of the municipality of Vaduz, we have been commissioned to carry out an awareness campaign on the topic of "integral living" as well as a study to examine the feasibility of sustainable housing development, especially with regard to current building laws and regulations.

The most important component of our awareness campaign is our online survey. The goal of our survey is to get an understanding of the needs of the Liechtenstein population regarding future trends in living and working. Can I for example imagine living on less square meters, sharing my workplace, running some car sharing cars in my neighborhood, growing food together, sharing resources like garden tools or tasks with my neighbors? And so on.

The project Integral Way of Living is intentionally open-ended. A regenerative living project can be a Tiny-House settlement, a housing cooperative (such as Kalkbreite in Zurich), an apartment building with shared spaces, neighborhood initiatives, a digital tool that makes a "sharing economy" more accessible, etc.

Your participation in our survey is of great value to us. Unfortunately our survey is only available in German but feel free to share it with your german speaking friends.

Feasibility Study

In cooperation with Lenum AG, we are preparing a study to examine the feasibility of sustainable settlement development. In Lichtenstein, there are 13 different building regulations on the municipal level in addition to the building regulations at state level! The obligation of 2 parking spaces for a single-family house is historically justified but no longer up-to-date with the current generation and availability of car sharing and public transport. So, what are legal constraints that make it impossible to realize a sustainable community housing development from the get go?

In addition, we ask real estate developers from Liechtenstein and the surrounding area for their assessment and experience regarding potentials and obstacles in the development of a regenerative housing project.

Awareness Campaign

"Lokal Termin" in Lichtensteig

Through our awareness campaign, a lively exchange with the small town of Lichtensteig, in Toggenburg CH, has developed. During our first visit to Lichtensteig, mayor Mathias Müller introduced us to the municipality's initiatives in a small group of interested people, including a small delegation from Vaduz with Gianna Schreiber from Integrity.Earth, Vaduz municipal councilor Ruth Ospelt-Niepelt and Christoph Sele from 7gen, as well as the initiators of the project Zukunftbahnhof and the Macherzentrum, the co-working space in Lichtensteig.

"Zukunftsfestival" Lichtensteig

The city of Lichtensteig was awarded the Wakker Prize for its innovative and bold revitalization initiatives and repurposing concepts of this year. To kick-off the 3-day Wakkerpreis celebration in Lichtensteig, the small town organized a "Zukunftsfestival". We were able to participate with an information stand to present integrity.earth's work with a focus on our project "Integral Way of Living". We were ableto establish many exciting contacts with inspiring initiators. Additionally we could share our flyers at the ZukunfsForum Alpen Event in Schaan.

Fundraising for "Integral Way of Living" is still open...

Our fundraising for Phase 2 is still in full swing. We are eager to hear back from the municipality of Schaan, the LIFE Klimastiftung Liechtenstein, the "Make it Circular Challenge", and the Umdasch Foundation where we have already submitted our project.

Erasmus+

Through the Liechtenstein National Agency AIBA we develop projects co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union.

AgroTalk: Smart Farming with Expert Bernd Robbert

On June 17th, we held our first event at the SDG Tower in Schaan, namely our kick-off activity of our Erasmus+ AGROYOUTH project.

For some years now, digitalization has been moving into agriculture at an increasing pace. Expert Bernd Robbert from the Agricultural School Salez gave an overview of current technologies and background knowledge on Smart Farming.

Many thanks for your numerous attendance and the exciting exchange that arose during this event!

Our project "Token for Change" for the EDIH Liechtenstein has started!

After a long evaluation process, the EU has announced Liechtenstein's European Digital Innovation Hub nomination. Three projects from Liechtenstein submitted their applications and two of them were able to meet the high standards and requirements of the EU. The innovative concept of "digihub.li" convinced the EU experts and independent selection committee and received the EU funding nomination. Integrity.earth is an official partner to prototype the project "Token for Change".

We are in the era of blockchain and DAOs

DAOs are changing the way we organize ourselves and how organizations might function in the future. A DAO is a decentralized autonomous organization, meaning they are self- governing organizations defined by a transparent set of rules encoded on the Blockchain. The unique aspect of a DAO is that it reduces the need for managers and traditional hierarchies and allows the organization to function independently of its members. They can therefore make organizational decisions collectively and autonomously through a process of decentralized governance, unlike traditional centralized organizational forms where a few shareholders can exercise a disproportionate amount of control.

Integrity.Earth understands youth as one of the most important capitals of society and the economy of today and tomorrow. However, children and youth have no vote to change the future, no opportunity and therefore little to no motivation to participate in decision-making processes. Yet they are citizens capable of taking action, who want to develop and express their own opinions, participate in decision-making and take responsibility.

A platform for young people

Our vision is an integrated society where the next generation is increasingly involved in decisions regarding the ecosystems in which they live and are active members of the community. Through the Token for Change project, Integrity.Earth aims to empower youth to help shape a holistic economy. The goal is to create a platform for young people to test their commitment to issues in a safe environment, learn active participation in shared decision-making processes and governance, confidently engage in open dialogues, and integrate the theme of regeneration by considering holistic methods. With the appropriate technology of the DAO, a facilitated space, methods and processes by young people for young people will be created in which solutions emerge through co-experience, learning, exploration, experimentation, co-creation and collaboration.
